Our Story
Bitterroot Fly Shop is the online fly fishing department of MHFA. We invite you to fish with a true Montana native that was born and raised in our wonderful state. Family owned and operated by Jim and Bonnie Mitchell. Based out of Hamilton, Montana. Jim was born and raised in the Bitterroot Valley of Western Montana.
We provide first class fly fishing adventures for trout on Montana's legendary Rivers, Streams, and lakes.
My father started the outfitting and guiding business in 1969. We have provided hundreds of hunters, anglers, and families with memories that last a lifetime. My goal as a second generation outfitter is to continue to provide high-quality adventures that you will want to join us on year after year. Many of our guests return to fish with us again and again. We appreciate their business, but mostly we are thankful for their friendship.

Licenses, Permits, and Affiliations
We are licensed by the Montana Board of Outfitters. License # 9961
James Mitchell holds special use permits for Montana under the direction of the United States Forest Service and the Bitterroot National Forest and is an equal opportunity service provider.
Holding special use permits from Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks for permitted rivers we operate on.
Jim is an Orvis endorsed fly fishing guide. Tenkara certified by Danial Galhardo. River Bum Pro and overall fly fishing junkie.
